Wetting and Bonding Behavior of SUS 304 Metal and Forsterite Ceramic with a PbO-Bi<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>-B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>-ZnO Glass Frit

The joining behavior of metal to ceramic was investigated using glass frit media. Glass with a composition 71.5PbO-24Bi2O3-2.5B2O3-1.5ZnO-0.5SiO2 in mol. % designed bond forsterite and SUS 304 metal. demonstrated transition temperature 250°C thermal expansion coefficient 15.9 x 10-6/°C, which isbetween the values (17.8×10-6/°C) (9.9×10-6/°C). contact angle smaller than 90° at 460°C. Redox reaction interface between SUS304 found appear when electrons part moved toward oxygen ions side. decrease surface tension due PbO solubility on side contributed better wetting low temperature. Due ionic bonding nature, able chemically react form rough boundary. Fe oxidized FeO ceramic. A thin layer helped wet 304, clear tight achieved.
